Discovery of high temperature superconductivity, sample of YBCO
"I would like to propose including the discovery of high temperature superconductivity above the liquid nitrogen temperature in 1987. It has been hailed as one of the most significant advancement in modern physics and has been considered to hold the key to developing some future technologies." Continued discoveries will lead to another industrial revolution and enhance energy efficiency thereby reducing "environmental degradation." "The discovery of high temperature superconductivity is a reflection of the American can-do spirit and our freedom to challenge established thoughts and to try the impossible; it could only happen in this unique land populated by dreamers from all corners of the globe."
