"...the discovery of plastics, polypropylene and a new high-density polyethylene. The discovery made by J. Paul Hogan and Robert L. Banks while working for Phillips Petroleum Company resulted in the development of a multi-billion dollar global industry and changed forever our daily lives...The plastics have created industries that provide thousands of jobs and business opportunities in this country and around the world...The Phillips Petroleum Research Center was recently designated as a National Historic Chemical Landmark by the American Chemical Society."
