National Millennium Time Capsule
National Medal Winner

American GI 'Dog Tags' Powell, Gen. Colin L., Presidential Medals of Freedom, 1991, 1993, Congressional Gold Medal, 1991, Presidential Citizens Medal, 1989
"Dog Tags" honoring the American GI
"I recommend the Millennium Time Capsule contain a set of GI 'Dog Tags' on a chain. These identification tags will serve to symbolize all those who served, sacrificed and died to achieve the freedom and security we enjoy at the end of the century. The Dog Tags were worn by every GI, of high rank and low, rich and poor, black and white, man and woman, the elite and the average. The Dog Tags brought them all together and made them one in the service of the Nation...Such an item 'honors the past.' And to 'imagine the future,' we will still need young men and women to wear Dog Tags to protect and insure that future."
