ADVISORY BOARD ON RACE WILL EXAMINE DEMOGRAPHICS,
ATTITUDES ON RACE AT MEETING TOMORROW

The second meeting of the Advisory Board to the President's Initiative on Race is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, 1997, 9:30-3:30 p.m., in the East Room at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel. Both President Clinton and Vice President Gore will participate. The meeting will include expert presentations on the changing U.S. demographics, on Americans' attitudes on race, and on the importance of facilitating constructive conversations on race in which all Americans can speak frankly with one another. The Board also will discuss and adopt a work plan for the next quarter.

There will be a 15-minute press availability for the Advisory Board in the Senate Room of the hotel at approximately 12:00 p.m. Some members of the Board will be available to the press at the conclusion of the meeting, which is expected to be at 4:00 p.m. The meeting itinerary is as follows:

9:30 a.m. Meeting Convenes
10:00 a.m. President and Vice President Participate in Discussion
11:00-noon Presentations Begin
12:00-12:15 p.m. Press Availability with Board (Cabinet Room)
12:15-1:15 p.m. Lunch Break (closed press)
1:15-3:15 p.m. Presentations Resume
3:15-3:45 p.m. Discussion of Advisory Board Work Plan
4:00 p.m. Adjournment

The speakers will be: Dr. Reynolds Farley, Vice President, Russell Sage Foundation; Dr. Lawrence Bobo, Professor of Sociology and Afro-American Studies, Harvard University; Dr. James Jones, Professor of Psychology at the University of Delaware and the Director of the Minority Fellowship Program at the American Psychological Association; Dr. John Dovidio, Professor of Psychology, Colgate University; and, Dr. Derald Wing Sue, Professor of Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology and California State University.

Seating is limited, but free tickets will be made available to the public at the Mayflower Hotel in the East Room, starting at 7:30 a.m., on a first-come, first-served basis.
