Dr. John Hope Franklin, Chair of the Advisory
Board of the President's Intiative on Race, presents the President with the
Board's report
On Friday, September 18, 1998, the
Advisory Board to the President's Initiative on Race concluded its work and
presented its final recommendations to President Clinton. Their report, One
America in the 21st Century: Forging a New Future, gives members of
the Advisory Board an opportunity to share with the President their
observations on what they saw and heard about race and its impact upon
communities throughout the country. The Board report also offers
recommendations on specific steps that should be taken to eliminate racial
disparities experienced by people of color.
Changing America: Indicators of Social and Economic Well-Being by Race and Hispanic
Origin, a report by the Council
of Economic Advisers for the President's Initiative on Race, was also
released on September 18, 1998. By providing much needed information about
racial disparities, this statistical chart book provides the basis for an
informed discussion about the problems faced by people of different races and
backgrounds in America.
Also available is the Accomplishments
Report for the President's Initiative on Race, which was updated as of
September 16, 1998.
