Introduction by JOHN H. GIBBONS

The chair of this panel, who will presumably do a good job of introducing the others, is Rita Colwell, who is the President of AAAS, one of our co-sponsors. She has been in so many places in the area of biotechnology that I will not give you even a partial list. She is a major thinker and doer in this field. Let me turn you over to Rita Colwell as Chair.
