Business Leaders Breakfast Sheraton Hotel

Presidents Clinton and Menem will visit a business breakfast which is being sponsored by the U.S.-Argentine Chamber of Commerce. Representatives from American and Argentine business communities will attend the breakfast. President Clinton will make brief remarks to close the breakfast.

This joint breakfast symbolizes the strong commercial relations the U.S. shares with Argentina. Two way trade for 1997 is estimated to exceed $8 billion. U.S. firms are also the leading investors in Argentina with $12 billion in investment, and increasing at more than $2 billion per year. This breakfast is an important opportunity to highlight U.S.-Argentine trade, the importance of hemispheric free trade and American support for MERCOSUR and other regional trade groupings that promote the liberalization of trade.

Meet and Greet with American Embassy Community
United States Embassy

Following remarks by Secretary of State Albright and the First Lady, The President will speak briefly before the American Embassy community before officially opening the new Embassy Information Resource Center (IRC). The President will also receive an honorary membership in the Argentine Center for International Relations (CARI).

The IRC is the United States Information Agency's state-of-the-art reference center on the U.S. It offers unique access to information on relevant U.S. Government legislation, trade, environmental and education issues as well as other areas of interest via multiple computer databases and the Internet.

CARI is a well known and respected Argentine forum focused on foreign policy, and has conferred such honorary membership to visiting dignitaries in the past, including President Bush, Secretary Albright, and the Heads of State of Spain, Panama, Haiti, Hungary and Finland. Following his visit with the American Embassy community, The President and First Lady will depart for the flight to Bariloche, where they will spend the rest of the day and evening.
