PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JAMES H. ATKINS AS MEMBER OF THE FEDERAL RETIREMENT
THRIFT INVESTMENT BOARD
President Clinton today announced the recess appointment of James H.
Atkins to serve as Chair and Member of the Federal Retirement Thrift
Investment Board. Mr. Atkins was nominated to the Senate on July 27, 2000.
Mr. James H. Atkins, of Arkansas, has served as Chairman of the
Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board since 1994. Mr. Atkins has also
been serving as Managing Director of Herrington, Inc. since 1997. From
1985 to 1997, Mr. Atkins was Managing Director of Marsh & McLennan, Inc.
and was President of Marsh & McLennan Arkansas, Inc. Previously, he was
President of Atkins Insurance Corporation from 1977 to 1985. Mr. Atkins
served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.
Mr. Atkins graduated with a B. S. in Business Administration from the
University of Arkansas.
The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board is responsible for
managing the Thrift Savings Fund, a special tax-deferred savings fund
established by the Federal Employees? Retirement System Act of 1986.
Program administration for the Thrift Savings Fund is financed from the
Fund.
