PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES LARAMIE FAITH MCNAMARA AS A MEMBER OF THE FOREIGN
CLAIMS SETTLEMENT COMMISSION
President Clinton today announced the recess appointment of Laramie
Faith McNamara to serve as a member of the Foreign Claims Settlement
Commission. Ms. McNamara was nominated on November 10, 1999.
Ms. Laramie McNamara, of McLean, Virginia, is a public policy
consultant specializing in the impact of technology development and
security on global institutions and relationships. From 1994 to 1995 she
was Senior Vice President for National and International Relations for Bank
of America. From 1980 to 1994, she directed federal government relations
at TRW Inc., a diversified company with a base in advanced technology. She
has served as an officer and a member of the board of the Electronic
Industries Association, as well as a member of the board of its Electronics
Industry Foundation. Ms. McNamara is a former member of the Industry
Executive Subcommittee of the President?s National Security
Telecommunications Advisory Committee, and chaired its task force on the
National Information Infrastructure. She has chaired the joint
private-public sector Tax Coalition, and is past Chairman and Member of the
Board of The Green Door, a non-profit, self-help organization for the
mentally ill.
Ms. McNamara was raised and educated in Europe and South America, and
received a B.A. from Niagara University and an M.A. from Boston College.
The Foreign Claims Settlement Commission of the United States is an
independent agency within the Department of Justice. It adjudicates the
property and personal claims of United States citizens against foreign
governments after the foreign government in question has reached a
settlement agreement with the United States. The Commission also offers
technical assistance to United States officials addressing foreign claims
issues and to foreign governments seeking to establish similar adjudicating
bodies of their own. The decisions of the Commission are final on all
questions of fact and law and are not subject to review by any other
official or agency of the United States.
