                     STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

     At the invitation of President Clinton, President-elect Vicente Fox of
Mexico will travel to Washington on August 24.  This will be the first
meeting between President Clinton and President-elect Fox.  The visit
provides an opportunity for both leaders to discuss the range of issues on
our bilateral agenda.
