                   Postponement of Tunisian State Visit

Earlier today, the President spoke with President Ben Ali of Tunisia, who
was scheduled to come to the White House for a State Visit on July 13. In
light of the Middle East peace summit scheduled to begin on July 11, the
two leaders agreed that it would be best to postpone the State Visit until
a later date.

Tunisia has always been a strong proponent of the peace process. President
Ben Ali?s graciousness in accommodating our need to focus fully on this
summit is yet another example of Tunisia?s support for peace.

We look forward to hosting President Ben Ali for a State Visit as soon as a
mutually acceptable date can be arranged.
