PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES LEE FISHER AS A MEMBER OF
THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS
OF THE UNITED STATES SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS
The President today announced his intent to appoint Lee Fisher as a
member of the Board of Governors of the United Service Organizations Inc.
Mr. Lee Fisher, of Cleveland, Ohio, is currently the President and CEO
of the Center for Families and Children, one of Ohio?s largest non-profit
human service organizations. He was the Ohio Attorney General from
1991-1995. During his tenure as Attorney General, Mr. Fisher used the
authority of his office to protect Ohio families from crime, fraud and
abuse. Through his "Operation Crackdown" program, more than 150 crack
houses were closed down and his office worked with local communities to
restore them as homes for drug-free families. This program has been cited
by President Clinton and the Bipartisan Presidential Commission on Model
Drug Laws as one of the best anti-drug programs in the country. He also
designed and created the first ever Children?s Protection Section that was
unique to any state Attorney General?s Office. He established Ohio?s
Missing Children Clearinghouse and a special Rapid Response Team that
helped prosecute the most serious cases of child abuse. Mr. Fisher tackled
school violence by establishing Project Safe Schools, which focused on
education, mediation, and intervention. He also received the National
Organization for Victims Assistance Award for Distinguished Service in
recognition of his work for crime victim advocacy.
Mr. Fisher received a B.A. from Oberlin College and a J.D. from Case
Western Reserve Law School and is a graduate of the Case Western Reserve
Weatherhead School of Business Professional Fellows Program.
The United Service Organizations Inc., (USO) is a voluntary civilian
organization created to serve a variety of needs of the members of the
armed forces and their families and to contribute to the maintenance of
military morale. The USO's Board of Governors are responsible for
overseeing the staff?s management of the USO's affairs and its property.
