PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ISAAC C. HUNT, JR. AS COMMISSIONER TO THE
SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION
The President today announced his intent to nominate Isaac C. Hunt,
Jr. as Commissioner to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Mr. Hunt, of Akron, Ohio, has served as a Commissioner on the
Securities and Exchange Commission since February of 1996. Prior to his
commission, Mr. Hunt was Dean and Professor of Law at the University of
Akron School of Law, a position he held from 1987 to 1995. He taught
securities law for seven of the eight years he served as Dean. Previously,
he was Dean of the Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. where he also
taught securities law.
Mr. Hunt received a B.A. from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee,
and his LL.B. from the University of Virginia School of Law. In 1999, Mr.
Hunt received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Fisk University.
The Securities and Exchange Commission is charged with regulation and
enforcement of laws pertaining to: public offerings of securities;
securities markets and persons conducting securities businesses; mutual
funds and other investment companies; companies controlling electric or gas
utilities; and investment counselors and advisors. The Securities and
Exchange Commission also acts as an advisor to United States district
courts during bankruptcy proceedings for debtor corporations in which there
is a substantial public interest.
