PRESIDENT CLINTON ISSUES A CALL TO ACTION FOR CORPORATE DIVERSITY

Today, President Clinton will convene representatives from America’s leading corporations to challenge corporate leaders to pledge to promote diversity, close the opportunity gap that exists in America and lead our nation towards the goal of building One America. The President will announce important new commitments from the business community in response to his call to action to ensure that minorities are not left behind in corporate America and that all Americans are able to participate equally in the prosperity of the new economy.

The President will be joined onstage by George M.C. Fisher, Chairman of Eastman Kodak in Rochester, N.Y. and F. Duane Ackerman, President and CEO of BellSouth Corporation in Atlanta, Ga.

The audience of approximately 130 will include representatives of major corporations. The following companies that have responded to the President's challenge will be among those represented: Adobe Systems; America Online; American Express; Anderson Consulting; AT&T; BP Amoco; BellSouth; Boeing Corporation; Chevron; Consolidated Edison; DuPont; Eastman Kodak; Exxon; Ford Motor Company; General Electric; GTE; IBM; Intel; Lucent Technologies; MCI Worldcom; Siemens Corporation; Sun Microsystems; TRW; United Technologies Corporation; and Xerox.
