The Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) is an agency within the Executive Office of the President. Located in the White House complex in the Old Executive Office building. OSTP's staff advises the President on science and technology. OSTP employs highly motivated and well-trained individuals. Over seventy percent of the staff have graduate degrees. About half of the staff hold career or Schedule A appointments. The remaining staff include political appointees and individuals on reimbursable assignments.
OSTP's staff interact daily with high-level officials throughout the federal, state, local and foreign governments, industry and academia. OSTP's work requires the following: sharp analytical and quantitative skills; the ability to present ideas and analyses effectively orally and in writing; and the ability to interact constructively with others, often under high pressure and tight deadlines.
OSTP operates at a fast pace on diverse issues that are complex and politically sensitive. Analysts cover areas including the environment, national security, international affairs, social and behavioral sciences, physical sciences and engineering, life sciences, technology, space and aeronautics.

Career Positions:
As needed, OSTP releases Job Vacancy Announcements. Each position is unique and applicants must respond to specific vacancy announcements to receive consideration. In addition to submitting a resume, applicants should address each of the Selective Factors and Quality Ranking Factors individually with a narrative summary of their experience and/or education as it relates to each factor. This is very important because it aids in determining eligibility and qualifications for a specific job. Current or former Federal employees should also include a copy of their most recent performance appraisal and their latest SF-50 (Notification of Personnel Action).

These positions are policy positions (Senior Policy Analysts, Policy Analysts, Policy Research Assistants). Candidates for these positions are hired without formal announcement or competition. Resumes are maintained in the Budget and Administration Office for review by supervisors as vacancies occur.
