Holidays At The White House 1996

As in past years, the First Family invited specific groups and individuals from around the country to create ornaments to adorn the White House Christmas Tree. Altogether, over 3,000 individuals volunteered their time and talents to make the 1996 holiday season at the White House a special one.

This year, 100 wood craft artisans, 300 professional ballet companies and 350 members of the American Needlepoint Guild and the Embroiderers Guild of America were invited to create ornaments depicting characters or scenes from the ballet. Fifty volunteer decorators from around the country donated their time and talents to decorate the White House during their busiest time -- the weekend after Thanksgiving. For many of these volunteers, this has been a tradition for over 10 years.

Eighty entertainment groups will perform at the White House for the 1996 holiday season.
