PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JULIE E. SAMUELS AS DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL
INSTITUTE OF JUSTICE AT THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
President Clinton today announced the appointment of Julie E. Samuels
as Director of the National Institute of Justice at the Department of
Justice (NIJ).
Ms. Julie E. Samuels, of McLean, Virginia, has served as Acting
Director of the NIJ since April 2000. Previously, she was the Director for
Policy in the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice, where she has
worked since 1979. In 1992 and in 1995, Ms. Samuels received the Attorney
General?s Award for Distinguished Service. In 2000, she received a
Presidential Rank Award.
Ms. Samuels received an A.B. in Political Science from Brown
University and a M.P.P from the University of California-Berkeley.
The NIJ is the research agency of the U.S. Department of Justice.
NIJ is authorized to support research, evaluation, and demonstration
programs, development of technology, and both national and international
information dissemination aimed at reducing and preventing crime and
improving criminal justice policy and practice.
