STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
Today the White House released the written report of the White House
Strategy Session on Improving Hispanic Student Achievement, held on June
15, 2000. The report, which will be distributed to educators, advocates,
policymakers and others, focuses on steps to achieve five key goals that
this Administration believes will lead to increased success of Hispanic
students.
Last June, President Clinton hosted stakeholders from the education,
non-profit, foundation, policymaking and business communities for a
Strategy Session focused on improving Hispanic student achievement. At the
strategy session, the President challenged the nation to commit to five
major goals for improving Hispanic student achievement and educational
attainment. The report includes the suggestions of Strategy Session
participants for meeting the goals by the year 2010 and also includes
commitments by various organizations in the public and private sectors to
assist the nation in reaching the goals.
