   PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES NED W. BANDLER, CHASKEL BESSER, AND RACHMIEL
  LIBERMAN AS MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION FOR THE PRESERVATION OF AMERICA?S
                              HERITAGE ABROAD


     The President today announced his intention to reappoint Ned W.
Bandler, Chaskel Besser, and Rachmiel Liberman to serve as members of the
Commission for the Preservation of America?s Heritage Abroad.

     Ned Bandler of Bridgewater, CT,  is currently Senior Advisor-External
Affairs for Unilever United States, Inc.the holding company for  major
Unilever operating companies in the United States.  Previously, Mr. Bandler
was a director and senior vice president of Unilever United States, Inc.
Mr. Bandler is vice chairman and director of the African Medical and
Research Foundation; chairman of the Citizen?s Research Foundation;
trustee, a vice chairman and executive committee member of Freedom House; a
member of the Economic Club of New York; and a retired Lt. Colonel (USAR).
Mr. Bandler is a graduate of Cornell University.

     Rabbi Chaskel Besser of New York, NY, is currently a Presidium Member
of Agudath Israel of America, Rabbi and President of Congregation B?nai
Chaim in New York, Chairman for Poland and Ukraine of the Ronald S. Lauder
Foundation, and President of Amf Bikur Cholim Hospital in Jerusalem.  He is
a member of the Board of Directors of Machon Jaacov Seminary of New York
City, Chairman of World-Wide Daf Ha-Yomi Commission, an executive board
member of the New York Holocaust Memorial Commission, a member of the
Conference of the Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, President of
Jewish Archives, and a member of the Board of the Jewish Free Burial
Society of New York.  Rabbi Besser graduated from Rabbinical Seminary Keter
Torah in Poland and Israel.

     Rabbi Rachmiel Liberman of Brookline, MA, is the Rabbi of Congregation
Lubavitch Synagogue in Brookline, MA.  He is the Executive Director of the
Jewish Educational Center of Massachusetts, and is the Jewish Chaplain for
various state agencies of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  He is also
President of the Rabbinical Board of New England.  Rabbi Liberman is a
board member of the Town of Brookline Council for Planning & Renewal, a
commissioner of the Town of Brookline Human Relations Commission, and a
member of the Attorney General?s Civil Rights Task Force.  Rabbi Liberman
received his Rabbinical ordination at The Rabbinical College of Canada and
a Graduate degree in Jewish Jurisprudence from the Rabbinical Seminary of
Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim.

     The purpose of the Commission for the Preservation of America?s
Heritage Abroad is to identify and publish a list of those cemeteries,
monuments, and historic buildings located abroad, which are associated with
the foreign heritage of U.S. citizens from eastern and central Europe.  The
Commission encourages the preservation of such cemeteries, monuments, and
historic buildings by gaining assurances of protection, in cooperation with
the Department of State, from foreign governments.
