                      STATEMENT BY THE VICE PRESIDENT

Five years ago, when her beloved husband was felled by an assassin?s
bullet, the proud and graceful presence of Leah Rabin wiped away the tears
of the world. Yitzhak Rabin gave his life for peace. But his wife Leah
was left with the pain. Like her husband, she did not allow the pain to
make her bitter or turn her against those who would harm her family. She
embraced the cause of peace, and worked bravely in her own right to bring
lasting stability and harmony the Middle East.

Tipper and I are deeply saddened at the passing of Leah Rabin. She
was a dear friend. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her children,
grandchildren, family members and millions of friends and admirers around
the world. We will keep them all in our hearts and our prayers.
