THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary ___________________________________________________________________________ _______________ For Immediate Release November 1, 2000 PRESIDENT CLINTON DECLARES AN EMERGENCY IN THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY The President today declared an emergency exists in the State of New Jersey and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by the West Nile Virus on August 5, 2000 and continuing. The President's action authorizes FEMA to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures, authorized under Title V of the Stafford Act, to save lives, protect property and public health and safety in the counties of Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren. Specifically, FEMA is authorized to provide up to $5 million for emergency protective measures to local governments at 75 percent Federal funding. ###
