         PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ANITA PEREZ FERGUSON AS CHAIR OF
                       THE INTER-AMERICAN FOUNDATION

     The President today announced his intent to nominate Anita Perez
Ferguson as Chair of the Inter-American Foundation.

     Ms. Anita Perez Ferguson, of Santa Barbara, California, served as
White House Liaison to the U.S. Department of Transportation, and National
Director of Training at the Democratic National Committee. In 1995, Ms.
Perez Ferguson was elected as the first Hispanic head of the National
Women?s Caucus.  In 1991, she served as Planning Commissioner of the City
of Santa Barbara.  From 1986 to 1989 she was the Affirmative Action
Commissioner for Santa Barbara County.  Ms. Perez Ferguson is a Visiting
Scholar for the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and has lead numerous seminars in
Latin America on the topics of leadership development and participatory
democracy.

     Ms. Perez Ferguson received a B.A. degree in Communications from
Westmont College, CA, a M.A. degree in Counseling Psychology from the
University of Santa Clara, CA, and a M.A. degree in Management from the
University of Redlands, CA.

     The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) is an independent agency
established in 1969 to cooperate with private, regional and international
organizations in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship and
understanding among people of Latin America and the Caribbean.
