              PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES RICHARD W. ANDERSON
                            TO THE FEDERAL BENCH

     The President today nominated Richard W. Anderson to the U.S. District
Court for the District of Montana.

     Richard W. Anderson, of Billings, Montana, has served as a United
States Magistrate Judge for the District of Montana since 1991.  Prior to
his appointment as a magistrate judge, he was a partner in the law firm of
Anderson & Molloy (1965-1991). Judge Anderson began his legal career as an
Assistant Montana Attorney General for the State Highway Department Legal
Division (1962-1964).  He also served as a Deputy County Attorney for
Yellowstone County (1964-1965).  Anderson received his B.A. degree from the
University of Montana in 1960 and his J.D. degree from the University of
Montana School of Law in 1962.
