TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS TO WORK DAY, 2000

Warm greetings to everyone participating in "Take Our Daughters to Work Day." Each year, we dedicate this special day to empowering girls with the encouragement and practical work experience they need to succeed in whatever career they choose.

Thanks to the courage and determination of women who blazed new trails in our society, young women in America today have more career opportunities open to them than ever before. Our daughters can look to a wide variety of inspiring role models straight from today's headlines -- from Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Eileen Collins, who last year became the first woman commander of a space shuttle mission, to the members of the U.S. women's soccer team, who inspired sports fans around the world and captured the 1999 World Cup. They can look to the many outstanding women leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives and the United States Senate. But most important, they can look to the women in their own lives -- a mother, an aunt, or a family friend -- who demonstrate through their own careers the wonderful possibilities of the future.

I applaud the many generous parents, teachers, community leaders, and other caring citizens who are participating in this year's observance. You are proving to America's young women that you believe in them and in their ability to achieve their dreams. And I am especially proud to commend the many young people across America who are taking advantage of this unique opportunity to get a firsthand look at the workplace and to learn more about the many career paths available to them.

Hillary joins me in extending best wishes to all for an inspiring day.

/S/ BILL CLINTON

STATEMENT BY THE VICE PRESIDENT

"TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS TO WORK DAY 2000"

I would like to commend everyone who is participating in this year's "Take Our Daughters to Work Day."

The parents all across America who are taking their daughters to work are also taking an important step in helping young women discover their dreams, and understand what it takes to fulfill them.

This important day also helps young women see that some of the best role models are the ones they come home to every day.

So today, as millions of girls get a first-hand look at the broad range of opportunities in the world of work, they are also seeing that their future is only limited by the scope of their vision, and the size of their dreams.

I thank the organizers of this day, and the parents who are making it so meaningful.
