The President and Mrs. Clinton Honor His Excellency the President of the Republic of Hungary and Mrs. GönczWashington, DC - - The President and Mrs. Clinton are hosting President and Mrs. Göncz at a White House State Dinner on Tuesday, June 8, 1999. His Excellency Árpád Göncz, President of the Republic of Hungary, and Mrs. Zsuzsanna Göncz, will arrive at the North Portico at 7:15 p.m. Guests will be received by the President and Mrs. Clinton, and President and Mrs. Göncz, in the Cross Hall of the White House. Following the receiving line, the President and Mrs. Clinton will escort President and Mrs. Göncz to the East Room of the White House for dinner. The tables in the East Room will be set with Woodrow Wilson base plates; Franklin Delano Roosevelt china will be used for service. Kennedy Morgantown crystal and gold vermeil flatware will be set on mauve dupion silk cloth table cloths. The centerpieces will be comprised of gold bamboo containers filled with purple allium gigantum, lavender delilah roses, blue columbine, white peonies and dendrobium orchids and surrounded by gold votives and silver candle sticks with gold candles. STATE DINNER ENTERTAINMENT Guests at this evening's State Dinner will be entertained by vocal artist Judy Collins. Judy Collins has been a legendary force in music for the past four decades. Her unique style and genre continue to take audiences around the world on a journey that embodies our Nation's social conscience and musical heritage. Beginning her music career on classical piano, Ms. Collins was inspired by her father, Chuck Collins, who was a singer, composer and broadcaster during the golden age of radio. It was the music of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger together with the traditional songs of the folk revival that sparked her love of lyrics. During the 1960s, she was drawn to songs by the social poets of the time: Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan. Judy Collins became unstoppable, topping the charts with classic hits like "Send In The Clowns," "Someday Soon" and "Chelsea Morning." During her illustrious career, Ms. Collins garnered numerous top-ten hits and Grammy nominations and recorded thirty albums, many of which are gold- and platinum-selling. Judy Collins has touched millions of people around the world through her humanitarian efforts. As UNICEF's Special Representative for the Arts, Ms. Collins has made numerous visits to the former Yugoslavia and Vietnam. Currently, she is producing an all-star collection of songs to raise money for UNICEF's landmine awareness programs. Ms. Collins is one of the most dynamic individuals of our time. Not only has her music heightened our social consciousness, but her acting, writing and humanitarian efforts have influenced generations and crossed borders to make our world a better one.
