On May 2nd, 2000, the White House hosted parents, teenagers, educators, youth workers, researchers, policymakers, foundations and nonprofits, at the White House Conference on Teenagers: Raising Responsible & Resourceful Youth. Among the topics discussed were: new scientific research concerning teenagers and brain development; the changing demographics of today's youth; the perceptions and realities about the role parents play in the lives of their teens; the impact of the new media on youth and parenting; the challenges and anxieties faced by today's teenagers and their families; and, what parents, communities and young people themselves can do to build a safe and successful path to adulthood. This website serves not only to inform you about the Conference itself, but to keep those interested in the topics apprised of related White House activities. "For all their declarations of independence, America's teenagers still want and need the everyday love, involvement and discipline of their parents." -Hillary Rodham Clinton | | |
