Today, President Clinton travels to Botswana. Before traveling to northKasane, President Clinton attends a bilateral meeting and reception withPresident Masire of Botswana at the State House in Gaborone. The StateHouse is the official residence of the President of Botswana. Located nearthe government "enclave", or compound, in the capital city of Gaborone(ha-boh-ROH-nay), the State House is the site of numerous official events,including an annual Independence Day celebration on September 30th. Theexpansive grounds of State House can accommodate a crowd of 5,000.President Masire and his family have resided at State House since heassumed the presidency in 1980. In addition to personal living quarters,the residence has several reception rooms for hosting official functions,as well as offices for meetings.
