MEMORANDUM FOR THE CHIEF OPERATING OFFICERS OF SELECTED DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES
FROM: |
Ed DeSeve |
|
|
SUBJECT: |
Progress Addressing the Year 2000 Computer Problem in Mission Critical
Systems |
As noted in OMB's most recent report quarterly report to the Congress,
"Progress in Year 2000 Conversion", many agencies are not demonstrating they are
making adequate progress in addressing the year 2000 problem in their mission
critical systems. OMB is concerned about the risk to the government of the
failure of such systems. Therefore, OMB will more closely monitor agencies'
progress in fixing mission critical systems.
To assist in that effort, please provide, by June 26, a copy of your
agency's plan for monthly progress toward making its mission critical systems
year 2000 compliant, including when systems being repaired are expected to
complete the renovation, validation, and implementation phases. For Departments,
please provide such a plan for the Department as a whole and for each major
component. Attachment A, is an example of the summary information that we expect
to derive from the plans provided.
Beginning August 10, and subsequently on the tenth day of each month
thereafter, please provide a report which shows the actual progress made in the
previous month relative to the plan. Feel free to include explanatory
information about the progress reported.
Please provide the plans to Ed Springer, Room 10236 NEOB, Washington, D.C.
20503 (phone: 202 395-3562, fax: 202 395-5167). He is also available to answer
any questions.
Thank you for your continued hard work on this critical effort. Working
together, I am confident that we can minimize the impact of this problem.
